 " Round the back"

We have had great fun this term thinking about our favourite characters from films and TV so produced our own version of the Nativity story 'Round the back' with lights, singing dancing and of course every movie screening has an audience eating popcorn.
Thank you to all our friends, family and the children and staff from St Williams Catholic Primary School who came and share our fun.

Our poor innkeeper was very tired as lots of people came to Bethlehem and all he wanted to do was sleep. That wasn't going to happen! He had no room left in his inn so could only off Mary and Joseph his stable round the back.

After giving them a lovely Elsa blanket to keep them warm Mary had her baby a special baby boy
called Jesus. The thought of the children especially our Joseph was Jesus might prefer a Minions blanket to Olaf and Elsa.

Our Innkeeper still didn't get any rest he was visited by shepherds

Awoke by the beautiful sound of an angel

and then visited by 3 very wise men

After all his visitors he was rather angry and decided to go round the back to see what all  was going on. It was then he saw the baby Jesus sleeping peacefully and was so happy all his anger went away.

All the staff and little gems from Sparklers Nursery hope you all have a very happy and holy Christmas.

Advent the time of preparation

Throughout December the children planned and decorated their nursery thinking about all the preparations for the Christmas season.

We have reused and recycled with the help of our community. Thought about how we can spread the news of Jesus having our own post office. Shared stories in our Twas the night before Christmas story corner. Retold and acted out the Nativity in our stable. Designed and created in our workshop and made many different cakes and cookies in our funky fingers area. All of this while sharing our ideas and helping others. The result the children created a beautiful nursery, learnt new skills and shared them with others having fun along the way.

Thank you to the children and families that came to Pilling Christmas light switch on it was lovely to see you on a chilly night.

We sung carols and was entertained by our friends from school and Pilling Brass Band. This year we were all warm by the fire with no more rain. The lights on the tree were bright and we had a surprise visit from a jolly fellow in a red suit!!!

So what animals did the inn keeper have in his stable?

We have had fun with the animals in the inn keepers stable this week. We know now though how hard it is to tidy up all the bedding from the animals (especially off carpet)

" Our inn keeper had a stable
EIEIO
and in that stable he had a cow
EIEIO
With a mooooo here and a moooo here
here a moo there a moo
everywhere a moo moo.
Our inn keeper had a stable
EIEIO"

Our stable and small world had lots of animals in who were very loud. Poor baby Jesus must have struggled to sleep.

Saving the environment

Thank you all for your help in collecting cardboard tubes and boxes.

We have spent time collecting boxes and tubes with the help of our family and friends at St Bernards church to save a tree from being cut down.  We have constructed our own Christmas tree from our collection of recycled materials. Together we found out how we could make it balance that took a lot of thought (and propping up for 24hrs.) We talked about the size of the tubes and boxes and how big our tree is. Now we are using other things to begin to make our own decorations.

After making our huge tree some of us have ordered pieces of card to make a picture of a tree. We used the words big, small, long, short and the same to describe the pieces. After we built our trees we counted how many pieces we had looking for which tree had the most pieces on it making it the tallest.

Our love of being green led to other creative activities.

"We are snipping along the lines to make a tube"

"I have cut lots of lines being careful. My cutting is great"

We used textured paint and listened when an adult said "ready Steady SPLAT"

No such thing as bad weather for us

Playing in puddles is not only a lot of fun, it is a great sensory and  physical learning experience for children.

Today we couldn't resist with all the rain we have had and a playground with lots of different sized puddles. We explored how it feels to be soggy from for the water, the size and depth of the puddles, we listened to the splashing and squelching sounds and the water made and inevitably our feet in our boots.

Playing in puddles is a great workout we jumped and hopped looking at the circles we made, we shuffled our feet through talking why it was hard work and we had to run. The most fun of all had to from kicking the puddles and soaking Mrs Ronson!

After all our fun in the rain and puddles it was time for changing all our clothes a nice warm drink and perhaps best of all for our parents all that activity everyone had a good nights sleep.
