Making something out of nothing

Do you ever wonder why when a child gets a present they spend hours playing with the box it came in and the paper it was wrapped in? Do you remember how when we were young we played for hours without gadgets and gizmos had a great time and let our imagination run wild?

In our play we use every day objects to allow our children to explore, create and experiment. As there is no answer or way of doing something the child is never wrong and always achieves. This type of play shows active learning and huge amounts of critical thinking allowing them to take the lead , make their own decisions on what to use and how to use it, they can solve their own problems as well as develop their imagination. This can begin from something as simple as picking up a block of wood and pretending it's a phone to finding and object adding it to something else to create a different use for it.

Our garden area has been inspired by this thinking our imagination has run wild thinking about the stories we love and what we simply like the idea of. We have been dinosaur explorers, fighting dragons in the forest and rescuing others from crocodiles in the pond. A childs imagination is endless and we have used this to develop our area.
